Walt Disney World

Avocado Margarita From La Cava del Tequila

We’re not going to lie to you. We love a good adult beverage. One of our favorite places to enjoy a frosty drink while exploring the Disney Parks is World Showcase at Epcot. It’s just fun to stroll through the different pavilions with a drink in your hand. So, we’ve been thinking of adding a cocktail to our list of Disney Dishes for a while.

But which one to choose?

Well, that question was recently answered for us. We recently appeared on Part of Our World Podcast, with their hosts Keenan & Rachael. (It’s a wonderful show and you should definitely check it out, by the way) They had just returned from a trip to Walt Disney World and Keenan was already missing his favorite drink; the Avocado Margarita from La Cava del Tequila in the Mexico Pavilion. Knowing we recently started this blog, he requested we re-create it so they could have a little piece of Epcot at home.

Well, Keenan, this one’s for you!

The Ingredients for our Avocado Margarita

The ingredients for our Avocado Margarita should, mostly, be easily found in your local grocery or liquor store. The one exception to this is the Hibiscus Salt. It wasn’t in any of the larger, or even some of the more boutique stores, we searched. The one place we did find it was online. (I mean, really. What can’t you find online?) However, we decided not to splurge on this part of the drink.

My bright idea. Using Hibiscus Tea to make Hibiscus Salt

Instead, I had the bright idea to take Hibiscus Tea and combine that with Kosher Salt. That makes sense, right? That should work! Well….

Grinding Kosher Salt with Hibiscus Tea

So, I used a mortar & pestle to grind the Hibiscus Tea with the Kosher Salt. It mostly accomplished the goal. It added the pinkish-purplish color to the salt with a light hint of the Hibiscus flavor we were looking for. However, the tea within it took away from the flavor slightly.

Judge for yourself but I’d say you should either splurge on the actual Hibiscus Salt online or just go with standard coarse salt around the rim. You won’t get the nice color contrast for the presentation or it’s slight flavor profile in the salt. However, that isn’t enough to make the extra effort, in my opinion. It’s totally up to you and your preferences, of course.

But enough of my yammering about Salt. Let’s get blending!
Adding the Avocado to our Avocado Margarita

Building our Avocado Margarita

The great news about this drink is that it’s pretty simple to put together. Just drop all the ingredients in a blender and let it do what it does best!

Add the ice first, then the Tequila Blanco, Melon Liqueur, Orange Liqueur, Fresh Lime Juice, Agave Nectar, and, finally, the Avocado. Blend until the mixture is fully combined and smooth. If you’d like your Avocado Margarita to be a little on the thicker and frostier side, just add a little more ice and blend. If it becomes thicker than you’d like, just add a little water. Repeat until you reach your desired consistency.

Getting out glasses ready for our Hibiscus Salt

Presentation

If you’ve found the Hibiscus Salt, or just like your margaritas with a little salt around the rim, then it’s time to prepare your glasses, Take a slice of fresh lime and run it around the edge of the glass.

Place a couple of tablespoons of whatever salt you prefer on a small plate or other container. Then just invert the top of the glass into the salt and turn until the rim is covered.

Once you have your glasses properly salted, the only step left is to fill them with our Avocado Margarita, sit back and enjoy!

Final Conclusion

Our Avocado Margaritas are fruity yet creamy but with a lot of frosty richness. They have a light amount of sweetness without it becoming overbearing or cloying. It’s a wonderfully refreshing drink to enjoy on a warm Summer day on the deck or by the pool while you’re dreaming of your next trip to Epcot.

Make this cocktail and bring a little taste of the Mexico Pavilion into tu casa!
  • Just one small warning. As you’ll notice from the ingredients, this drink has plenty of alcohol in it but doesn’t necessarily taste like it. It can sneak up on you fairly quickly. As they say, “please drink responsibly“!
