Disney Dishes Piña Colava Recipe

We’re squarely into August and it’s hot pretty much everywhere. That heat has us thinking about they many wonderful days we spent by the Disney Pools with a cocktail in hand. Since we haven’t passed along a new Disney cocktail recipe to you in a while, we thought this would be the perfect time to pass along one of our cool and frosty favorites. So, here is our Disney Dishes Piña Colava Recipe.

So, get your swimsuits and flip flops on because here we go!

The Ingredients for our Disney Dishes Piña Colava Recipe

Our Ingredients

If you’ve ever blended up a Piña Colada, then most of the components for our Disney Dishes Piña Colava Recipe should seem fairly familiar to you. We happen to like a little more Coconut flavor for ours, so we add the Coconut Rum. However, if you prefer to cut that taste a little bit, or if you have trouble tracking it down, you can substitute traditional, Golden Rum.

Another thing you’ll want to be sure and pay attention to is the fact that we are using Cream of Coconut in this recipe. It’s the extra sweet and creamy purée that is often found with the cocktail mixers. While you can use Coconut Milk, it’s not the optimum ingredient for this recipe.

Finally, you may notice I’m making my own Raspberry Purée. You can absolutely use a pre-made version of this in your drink. It would definitely cut your prep time. I’m doing it just because I like this version of it better……Also because they didn’t have it in my store.

Let’s get blending!

The Raspberry Purée

First, if you didn’t read that and, at the same time, lightly sing it to yourself to the tune of Prince’s Raspberry Beret, then I don’t know if we can be friend. Ha, ha! Just kidding. About the “friends” part. Not that you should be singing it to one of Prince’s best songs.

Anyway…

If you’ve decided to make your own Raspberry Purée (see, you’re doing it now, aren’t you) you’ll want to get this started well ahead of time.

Begin by placing the Fresh or Frozen Raspberries, Triple Sec, Sugar and Water in a medium-sized pot. Place on the stove over medium low heat and bring to a simmer.

Continue to simmer, while stirring occasionally, for approximately 20 minutes.

Next, you’ll want to, yes, purée your Raspberry Purée. If you happen to have a stick blender, then you can do it right in the pot you simmered them within. If not, you’ll want to place them in a traditional blender. Whichever version you use, you’ll want to blend it until completely smooth.

Straining the Raspberry Purée for our Disney Dishes Piña Colava Recipe

Now, you’ll want to strain the sauce into a small bowl to remove the seeds that will remain. Be sure to use a fine enough strainer that the seeds can’t pass through.

Once your Raspberry Purée is completely strained, place the bowl in an ice bath to cool like in the picture above. Once it has cooled completely, you can place it in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator until ready to use. It will stay good for up to one week in the fridge.

The Piña Colada

You can’t have our Disney Dishes Piña Colava Recipe without the actual Piña Colada portion. However, since this is a blended, frozen drink, this needs to happen immediately before you’re ready to serve them up. The good news is that this goes quickly and is very easy.

The ingredients for the Piña Colada portion of our Disney Dishes Piña Colava Recipe added to a blender

Place the Pineapple Juice, Coconut Rum, Cream of Coconut, and Ice in a traditional blender. Cover and blend until the Ice is completely crushed and is very smooth. If your mixture is too thick, you can add a little more Pineapple Juice to thin it. On the other hand, if it happens to be too thin, you can always add more ice.

Our Disney Dishes Piña Colava

Now that the drink is completely blended, it’s time to put our cocktails together. Begin by placing about an ounce of the Raspberry Purée into the base of whatever glass you plan on serving your Piña Colava within. I’ve chosen a pint glass.

Next, pour the blended Piña Colada into the glass at a fairly rapid pace. When you do this, it should, sort of, “splash” the Raspberry Purée up the sides of the glass. This “splash” gives your completed drink that rippled look that makes this drink pop.

Add a straw and any garnish you’d like. Serve immediately and enjoy (responsibly)!

Final Conclusion

This Disney Dishes Piña Colava Recipe is absolutely perfect for a steamy, summer day. It’s frosty, flavorful and filled with bright flavors. You get a lot of the creamy richness of the Coconut, cut wonderfully by the Pineapple Juice. Then there’s this regular pop from the sweet, and slightly tart, Raspberry that brightens the whole cocktail.

The one thing I will say about this drink is that it is rather sweet. I feel it’s best served with a salty and/or spicy dish just like the Lobster Nachos from Lamplight Lounge. However, a regular bowl of good old chips & salsa will work perfectly, as well.

Also, be careful with this drink. You won’t really notice the Rum in it while drinking it. So, while the alcohol level isn’t particularly high in this recipe. If you have a couple, it could begin to creep up on you very quickly.

As always, please drink responsibly.
  • One more thing. This is also a great cocktail that could be easily transformed into a “virgin” version. All you need to do is replace the Coconut Rum with a little Coconut Milk or just more Pineapple Juice. If you’re concerned about the Triple Sec in the Raspberry Purée, most of the alcohol there will cook away. However, if you’d prefer no alcohol at all in any portion of your Virgin Piña Colava, then you can just replace it with Orange Juice.
