Apple-Cinnamon Cranberry Sauce

Can you believe it’s already midway through November? Where has the year gone? The good news is, we’re officially in the holiday season which also just happens to be the season of great food!

That’s what we’re here. To help you serve excellent Disney food in your home.

So, for the next couple weeks, we’re going to help set up your Thanksgiving table with the recipes for some of our favorite Holiday Side Dishes.

Some are Disney related.

Some are not.

Trust us, though. They are all delicious.

Today, I’m going to get you started with a simple one; Apple-Cinnamon Cranberry Sauce.

So, I don’t know if you’re like me. However, I found traditional Cranberry Sauce to be a little too “citrusy”. Most recipes call for orange juice, orange zest, etc. It’s fine. It’s just not my thing.

Now, if you give me apples and cinnamon together. Well, then I’m in heaven!

So, I decided to tweak the traditional sauce with the addition of some of my favorite ingredients. Thus, this recipe for Apple-Cinnamon Cranberry Sauce was born.

The ingredients for our Apple-Cinnamon Cranberry Sauce

Our Ingredients

This is, by far, the most simple list of ingredients we’ve had for any Disney Dish. Heck, virtually all the components are right in the title; Apple-Cinnamon Cranberry Sauce.

You can use whatever apples you prefer for this dish. I like the balance of sweetness and tartness provided by Gala Apples. So that’s what I went with.

The “Hard” Part

Honestly, there’s nothing really difficult to do in this recipe, at all. The one thing you do have to make an effort at is dicing the Apples. You’ll want to have them be around the same size as your Cranberries.

I know, there’s nothing tough about that.

Well, that shows you just how easy this recipe is.

(Almost) Everything In The Pot

Now it’s time to get cooking. Add the Cranberries, Diced Apples, Granulated Sugar, and Apple Juice to a medium-sized sauce pan over medium-high heat and stir until thoroughly combined. Bring the ingredients to a boil, stirring occasionally.

Once the contents of the sauce pan begin to boil, lower the heat to medium-low and continue to simmer the sauce. Stirring occasionally, cook the sauce until it appears that all of the Cranberries have burst.

Our fully cooked Apple-Cinnamon Cranberry Sauce

Remove the pan from the heat and add the Cinnamon and Salt. Stir until completely combined. Set aside and let the sauce cool completely.

Once cooled, you can place the sauce in a dish and serve immediately. If you prefer, you can also store it in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.

Our Final Conclusion

I absolutely love this Apple-Cinnamon Cranberry Sauce. The Cranberries provide the tartness you expect, perfectly balanced with the sweetness from the Apples and Sugar. Then the Cinnamon kicks in, providing this lovely Holiday Season spice that perfectly compliments the fruit. It’s absolutely lovely.

This is a perfect accompaniment to your Thanksgiving Turkey. However, it’s also perfect as a side dish for other entrees like our Oven “Fried” Chicken recipe.

Also, since this Disney Dish is so easy to create and store in advance, you can still serve a more “standard” Cranberry Sauce at your celebration for the “traditionalists” in your family. (Meanwhile, you’ll be enjoying the better of the two sauces at the table)

Make this recipe a regular part of your Thanksgiving and Holiday Parties.
